Thursday 30th August 2007 at Roseberry Grange Golf Club, Chester-le-Street,
Co Durham.
The event was the idea of Alan Garden who lost his wife Maureen to
Motor Neurone Disease in 2006. Maureen was a keen golfer before illness forced
her to give up. The event is a tribute to Maureen and her battle against MND.

A Folk Music Concert for The North East Motor Neurone Disease Trust was
held on 10th March 2007 at the Sage Gateshead.
After
the success of our 2006 concert, and with everyone asking "When’s
the next one?", we had to do another one.
With a mix of traditional and contemporary folk music from gifted and talented
singers/songwriters and musicians it was another night to remember.

Around 90 golfers entered this event, held on 6th September 2006 at Roseberry
Grange Golf Course, County Durham. As
a result, a very successful day was enjoyed, and, if all is to be believed,
some extremely skilful play was demonstrated!
The entertainment which followed, at the 19th in the evening, was excellent.
Many very attractive prizes were raffled or auctioned, and
a modest amount of liquid refreshment was consumed!
A sincere vote of thanks is due to Margaret Tindale, Lady Captain this
year, and Roseberry Grange Golf Club, as well as to Alan Garden, for their
efforts on our behalf.

We had a fantastic day the sun shone and only a few splashes
of rain just to remind us we were in British summer time! (The gardeners
among us had to be restrained).
The food was cooked to perfection; the wine and beer flowed to keep us
all cool on such a warm day!
Thanks to all those who came along and made it such an enjoyable event.
A special Thanks to ‘The Original Village Pork Shop’ of Fulwell,
Cleadon and Whitburn Sunderland for the most stupendous assortment of meat,
we will definitely be coming back!
BBQ is already pencilled in the diary for next year. |

Trevor Hanover, owner of the Newcastle-based dairy company Hanover Dairies,
delivered a £9,000 cheque to The Trust in July 2006.
Trevor started raising money in January 2006 with contributions from
customers and business partners.

Taking his quest straight to the doorstep,
every pint of milk delivered was accompanied by a personal request for a
donation.
The Trust wishes to Thank Trevor, his family, staff and all his customers
for their efforts in raising such a fantastic amount. |

17 year old student Laura Rutherford from
Alnwick, held a fancy dress disco at her local village club. The night
raised a staggering £1041.18.
Laura said "Organising my charity fund raising event was not as easy as
I thought it
would be. I was worried in case the DJ didn't show up and would everyone
enjoy
themselves, but when the doors opened and I saw all the people in fancy dress
costumes with big smiles on their faces I knew all my hard work had paid
off".
"I feel so proud for raising such a great amount of money for the Trust
and I know the money will be spent on people who need it. Thanks to
everyone who came to the event and hope to see you at the next
one"!
Many thanks to Laura and all her supporters.

The Folk Concert of on 31 March 2006 was a great success, with
all
singers
and musicians providing a memorable night of folk music.
Stewart McFarlane was compere, and he did a fine job of moving things
along. He was
a humorous and amenable host.
The Old Age Travellers opened the set up with a cracking version of "Coal
Town Days". They played four songs in total, finishing with a fine rendition
of Reconciliation.
Then they were joined on stage by Sharon Homes. I loved her version of
Ride On. The Travellers then left the stage, and Sharon was accompanied by
Garth
for another song.
Dennis Makepiece was next, accompanied by his good friend John Brindle.
Dennis has a great voice, and I think he and John work together well as a
duo.
Sheila Hamil performed a couple of songs,
followed by Chris Milner, who sang an acapella version of Claudy
Banks, and then he was joined on stage by Barbara Shaw.
The first set closed
with Nebula. Their version of 'The
Yew Tree' was
one of the highlights of the evening.
The second set was opened by Marie Little.
She oozes personality on stage, and it was a great way to start the second
half. |
 |
 |
 |
 |
Shy Talk were next, and they were a popular act. Sheila and Garth
Hodgson were next. Garth is very versatile playing with a number of the acts
tonight on keyboards, guitar an mandolin. Another
good
set.
They were joined on stage by Keith Morrision and members of Scratch Band.
Keith played a couple of his own songs. |
 |
The night was finished by the Scratch Band, they were
one of the highlights
of the convert.
A marvellous evening, with everyone going home happy.

The BIG Abseil took place on Sunday 3rd July 2005. The Sun was shining
and we all had a fantastic day. In total 123 brave people abseiled down the
side of the Malmaison Hotel, on Newcastle's Quayside. A good time was had
by all, even by those who got to the top and turned to
jelly!
The total funds raised on the day are not yet known, but the Trust hope
to have raised over £20,000 from the Abseil event.

One girl, Kay, will always be remembered, not just for
her brave efforts but for the screams of fear as she inched her way down
the building.
Sorry Kay for putting this this on on our site, but you gave us a great
deal of pleasure!!
Kay was part of a team of 10 from Northern Rock. They hope to have raised
about £3,000 between them. Northern Rock say they will match their
final total. Thank
you all.

On 16th June 2005 the Trust and other guests attended a coffee morning
at the Mansion House in Newcastle. The Lord Mayor and his staff provided
a splendid venue and excellent sticky buns! The Lord Mayor gave a speech
on
the efforts of the Trust and about aims
planned
for the future.

Aimee Purple bravely agreed to make a skydive in aid of NEMNDT at
Peterlee
Parachute
Centre
in County Durham.
The jump was scheduled to take place on 24 July 2005, but although Aimee
completed her training, she was not able to make the jump on that day due
to bad weather. Aimee than had to wait a number of weeks for the weather
to be right to enable her to complete the jump.
|
|
The day finally arrived when the weather was good enough to allow jumping
to take place. While 50,000 people were running from Newcastle to South Shields,
Aimee took to the skies over County Durham and jumped from an aircraft in
flight! Congratulations Aimee, and thank you for this great effort. Click
for proof
of her achievement.
